Sonogram (Ultrasound)

General Information

What is a sonogram examination?
Ultrasound devices do not require radiation but, as the name implies - ultrasounds.  These sound waves are more than 1-30 million vibrations per second higher than what we humans can hear.
In the animal world ultrasound helps orient bats and dolphins.

How does an ultrasound function?
During the examination a boom head will be placed on the body part to be examined, usually after applying a small amount of gel for better contact.  The boom head sends short sound waves, which will be reflected by the body (echo). With these echos, the ultrasound device produces a sectional image of the inner organs.
