What is osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a metabolic disease of the skeleton.  It is recognizable through the loss of bone mass and a deterioration in the bone  frame.  From it results an increased bone brittleness, often causing fractures in the vertebra, underarms or the femur, from minor falls and routine tasks like lifting and carrying.
