How do the advantages compare to the risks?

Advantages: The dental-CT produces high definition images of the upper and lower jaws and provides the best planning base for an optimal choice of implants.  The bone quality can also be checked.  On the lower jaw the CT shows the nerve canal and provides increased safety in the care of the nerves, for example before the removal of a wisdom tooth.  Ambiguous results of normal x-ray images can be clarified by CT.

Risks: During each CT scan the patient is exposed to radiation.  Our state-of-the-art technology keeps this down to a minimum.  Nevertheless, the radiologist always considers alternative, radiation-free methods.
